Mario Mankey was born in Puerto de Sagunto, Spain, a small coastal town near Valencia. After living in Berlin for 5 years, he now lives and works in his hometown. He has been painting on the street since 2001 and combines elements from comics, animation, primitavism, deconstructed graffiti, abstraction, Miro, Picasso and Basquiat. The latent contradiction between humans and primates manifests itself through his stage name.
He works on human behaviors that he finds disturbing and focuses mainly on the eternal contradictions of the modern individual because of his ambitions and limitations. Two of the main themes of his current work are the Anthropocene and Patriarchy. According to his own statement, he wonders why the geological factor of humans is such a big disadvantage for the earth. Thus, the works are aimed at a diverse but attentive audience able to understand the proposed artistic dialogue.
Next to a Mural in the METROPOLINK Commissary Gallery in 2018, Mario Mankey exhibited the installation of a melting car to draw attention to the climate crisis.
